Echo, Berlin 2010

Echo is a roomspecific installation that works with the local background radiation and with the specific architectural acoustic properties of the exhibition space to create a constantly changing private soundscape. The moment when a particle / radiation enters the radioactivity sensor is very unique. On the one hand it markes an event at one specific point of time obvious, on the other hand the same moment marks / indicates its end. It is transformed – energy given away to electrons that are going to produce a current which then is converted into sound. So to say the death or transformation of a particle gives birth to sound. This moment is very, very short but due to the acoustic qualities of specific places in rooms, the time of the transformation process can be elongated and explicified in our perception. the work echoes focuses on reverberation to explore the acoustic qualities of transformation processes.
