Hexaeder, Berlin 2010



The work Hexaeder consists of a wooden cube with the same side lengths that is inhabited by biolumniscent mushrooms and situated in the centre of the darkened room. While entering the room the viewer first experiences a subtle smell of forest, the perceptive aspect of time gradually becomes the focus of his stay. The longer the visitor stays the better his eyes adopt to the darkness of the room where he finally is able to observe an organic and inhomogeneous source of light. Coming closer to the cube the viewer experiences the cube´s symmetry converted to a ephemeral fractal of light that is constantly changing throughout the exhibition period. As the strictly geometric presence of the hexahedron can never be seen completely, the viewer confronts himself with the immaterial negative of the cube. The final perception of the work requires the viewer´s completion, depending on the manner of his perception and his length of stay.
